"I would probably recommend this trip to a friend."
This old mining/logging road is closed by a stream at 2 miles from the Taneum Creek road. Walking the road from there takes you up through Ponderosa Pine forest onto a ridgetop at about 4500'. There are nice, wide-open views north to the Stuart Range and the peaks surrounding the Enchantment Basin.
Photos: [Top] Lingering snow and the shadow of a large Ponderosa Pine on rugged glacial till, with the snow-capped Stuart Range in the distance; [Bottom] This strange gravesite sits just outside the Tamarack Spring Campground. The hand-lettered inscription says, "White Womans Grave."
Overall, it's a pleasant, easy hike for about 3 miles to the top, and the road continues beyond that, if you wish, into the Wildlife Preserve and up to a drive-in campground with a pioneer gravesite.
Because this whole area is open to, and popular with, ORVs, expect to meet a motorcycle or two.
