Redfish Lake Horseback Riding

Trip report by: Denis Du Bois

"I would probably recommend this trip to a friend."

If you get tired of hiking, or you just want to be on a horse for a while, call Redfish Corral and make a reservation for an hour and a half ride along the ridges above Redfish Lake and Little Redfish.

Photos: [Top] Redfish Lake in the distance, from the northeast ridges above the corral; [Bottom] Sawtooths in the background, including the Saddleback Valley.

The scenery on this trail is nice, and the view of the lake is not something you'll see from any of the other trails, such as the trail to Cramer Lakes or Baron Lakes. The aspen leaves were changing when we went, adding an extra touch of splendor to the sights.

Horseback tours cost about $25-$30 per person. Bring water, a light jacket, a bandana to keep the dust out of your nose, and a camera. They supply everything else, including horse operating instructions, a slicker, and a guide.

Note: This is backcountry wilderness travel. Any trail can become very dangerous in winter conditions. You are responsible for informing yourself of the hazards and taking the necessary precautions. Please read Terms of Use.
