Panorama Point, Mt. Rainier NP

Mount Rainier National Park has four main entrances, each with its own personality. Paradise, on the south side of the park, represents the stately elegance of National Parks in the thirties. The lodge is a beautiful, but expensive, place to stay, with a gourmet restaurant, and trails that start at the front door.

This photo is taken on a day hike of seven miles from Paradise Lodge up to the 7,000' level at Panorama Point. We had sunshine, rain, fog and wind. Barely visible in this photo, just above the tall guy's head, is Mount Adams, another of the Cascade volcano range.

In photo, from left: Denis; good friend Jeff; and brother Adam.

For equally beautiful hikes without as many crowds, consider hiking just outside the park. One example is the Naches Peak loop.
