Northwest Hiking Trails

Rachel Lake

Trip report by: Barb

"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."

We hiked this trail in mid August, and it took us about 4 hours (guidebook says 6). It's a pretty mellow three miles to the last mile, which is a strenuous climb that brings you another 1300 feet higher (yes, 1300 feet in one mile!)

The many tree roots and rocks in the last mile made this a fun climb. At the top (finally!), we were rewarded by beautiful, crystal clear Rachel Lake. A fishing pole is recommended, as the trout were in plain view. Gorgeous.

Incidentally, the "100 Hikes..." book was right on target in all four of the trails we took this week. We can hardly wait to return!

Note: This is backcountry wilderness travel. You are responsible for informing yourself of the hazards and taking the necessary precautions.
