"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."

One of my favorite outdoor playgrounds is the Table Rock Wilderness. A 7,000 acre wilderness nestled in the original Cascade Mountains. Less than 1 1/2 hour away from Portland this playground is a perfect for snow shoeing in the Winter and hiking in the Summer. At the N.E. edge of the wilderness there sits an old historic fire lookout called Pechuck Lookout.
Built back in 1918 this structure is one of the last stone cupola in the Northwest. I've found three different routes up to the lookout. During the winter the only route is the longest route. A six mile, (one way) 2,700' elevation gain makes for a long day on snow shoes.
The dry shelter is a welcome site. The lookout sits at 4350'. By far not the highest peak around but high enough to enjoy great views of Hood, Jeff., Sisters, St Helens, Adams, Rainier, and a few others. The lookout is also equipped to stay the night.
Middle and
South Sister mountains from the lookout.
