Northwest Hiking Trails

Palisades Lake

Trip report by: Sarah Nealen

"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."

I started out from Sunrise (Yakima Park), up the Sourdough Ridge trail. I took a short detour up Dege Peak, then headed down the side of the ridge to Sunrise Pt., then to Upper Palisades. The trail has nice variety between the Pt. and the lakes, and requires no technical work. You can't see Rainier from the trail, but there are nice views of Marcus Peak and the Palisades, as well as beautiful aquamarine lakes. I'd recommend starting from Sunrise Pt., however. While Dege is a wonderful little peak and well worth the hour long climb from Sunrise Lodge, the uphill from Sunrise Pt. to Sourdough Ridge isn't fun. Nice wildflowers, some good views, so if you don't mind a fourteen mile day, I'd say it's worth it, but for the less ambitious hiker, the Pt. is the better option.
