Northwest Hiking Trails

Mt. Washington, Olympic NP

Trip report by: Ira Rushwald

This hike provides fabulous views for those willing to endure the arduous route up. Right next to Mt. Elinor there are views of the interior of the Olympics, Hood Canal, The volcanoes and the Cascades.

The route up is only about 2 miles, however it is 3200 ft. of elevation gain. This gives you a good idea of what the trail is. There is a trail pretty much all the way up but it is extremely steep in places and near the top becomes a little airy.

Not a hike for kids or those who don't want to use their hands or those who are bothered by heights. If any of these is the case, better to go up Mt Ellinor.

Time up: 3 hrs. Time down: 2 hrs 20 min.

Stats: 2 miles one way, 3200' elevation gain.

Note: This is backcountry wilderness travel. Any trail can become very dangerous in winter conditions. You are responsible for informing yourself of the hazards and taking the necessary precautions. Please read Terms of Use.
