Northwest Hiking Trails

Marymere Falls, Olympic NP

Trip report by: Denis Du Bois

"I would probably recommend this trip to a friend."

Marymere Falls is a must-visit spot when in the Lake Crescent area. The trail starts at a tunnel under Highway 101. Good luck coaxing your kids out of this echo chamber!

There are two trails to the falls, neither one over 3/4 mile each way. The "easier trail" goes to a lower overlook, about halfway up the height of the falls. The other trail, presumably the "harder trail," leads to the higher overlook. Oddly, the better photos are from the lower overlook. The two trails connect to form a loop, so you're not missing anything by choosing one trail over the other.

On a hot day, the overlook is a cold blast of mountain mist. It can also get busy, so prepare to exercise more patience than cardio.

Note: This is backcountry wilderness travel. Any trail can become very dangerous in winter conditions. You are responsible for informing yourself of the hazards and taking the necessary precautions. Please read Terms of Use.
