Northwest Hiking Trails

Lookout Mountain, OR

Trip report by: Colby Phillips

"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."

Lookout Mountain anchors a ridge that runs directly across from Mt. Hood, and offers great close-up views without requiring too much effort. This trail follows an old double-track road from the parking area, and climbs 550 feet over 1.2 miles through meadows and into dense forest up to the open rocky summit of the mountain. The cliff summit falls away to a view of the Badger Creek Wilderness Area and the east face of Mt. Hood.

Notes
The trailhead is on High Prairie Road 4410, accessible from Highway 35. At an intersection that the road dead-ends into, turn left and go 200 yards to a small parking area on the left. The trailhead is across the road.
