Cool Trails: Lake Easton, WA Northwest Hiking Trails

Lake Easton

Trip report by: Bill DeYoung

"I would probably recommend this trip to a friend."

First X-country ski experience. Saturday (1/30) friend Marcos and I headed over Snoqualmie Pass to exit 70--Lk Easton State Park. Small parking lot and a view of the lake. The trail from the parking lot is for both skiiers and snowmobilers and the skiers' trail breaks off after about 200 yds. We missed this and skiied along the combo trail. Takes you up and around two or three good hills through varied terrain with some fair views and continues on to Cabin Creek.

We stopped short of this and had lunch overlooking the creek and then headed back. Trail is groomed, but not for skiis, though this didn't pose a problem. We were passed by two groups of machines--once in each direction--but otherwise had the entire place to ourselves. I estimate 3 miles.

I went back alone on Monday to ski the park trails. About 4" of fresh snow. The groomed ski trails go through forest with little elevation change. Pretty, but very short--5.6 k.
