Trip reported by Colby Phillips.
The Oregon Coast Range offers a variety of three- or four-season hikes that are close to Portland and usually uncrowded. Kings Mountain Trail is one of the harder ones--it climbs 2400 feet in 2.5 miles, but the views from the Pacific Ocean to Mt. Hood are rewarding. The trail is mostly sheltered in Red Alder-Maple woodland until the summit, where it opens up in early season wildflowers.

Stats: 2.5 miles, 2400' elevation gain, high point 3226' (summit).
Getting there: From Portland, take Hwy 26 west towards the Oregon Coast, then take Hwy 6 toward Tillamook. The trailhead is 10 miles west of the Gales Creek Forest Park Campground on the right side of the road.
