Killen Creek Trail on Mt. Adams

Trip reported by Jim & Kirsten Barnes.

We hiked the killen creek trail in late August. The trail is moderately strenuous, mostly towards the end, above timberline. The way up is through subalpine fir forests and lots of wildflowers. Pretty spectacular. The trail is pretty beat up by horses, in many places it is like climbing stairs with the retaining walls that have been built to hold the trail in place.

If you want to see a million fat marmots munching on wildflowers, this is the hike. As soon as you break out onto the talus slopes, they are everywhere. Unfortunately, when we got to that point in the hike, it clouded up and the mountain was obscured.

I plan on revisiting this area this summer and camping up above timberline, possibly hiking the Mt. Adams highline for a couple of days. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of this trip.
