Northwest Hiking Trails

Indian Head Beach

Trip report by: R.S.

It is only a short hike from Ecola State Park (in Cannon Beach, Oregon) to Indian Head Beach. My family and I walked one-way in about half an hour at a reasonable pace.

The trail in some places is close to being over-grown by the plant life, but you won't need a machete. It's a hilly trail, and in some places can be pretty muddy, but it's also very beautiful. There are lots of huge trees to see, and on a hot day, the forest's shade is quite welcome (it offers some protection from rain as well!)

The trail follows along a cliff and when it gets close enough to the edge, the views are awesome. The beach is also great- there are even tide-pools at the south end!

A few small notes- there's a $3 day-use fee at Ecola, and parking is a challenge if you wait too long to show up at the park. As in most coastal trips, plan for bad weather (rain/wind) if the sky looks questionable. ... Have Fun!!
