Northwest Hiking Trails

Hurricane Hill Trail, Olympic NP

Trip report by William Borden

For one of the finest vistas in the Olympics, take the trail to the top of Hurricane Hill. When the weather's clear, you'll find a grand vista of Puget Sound with the San Juan Islands and Mount Baker visible. Turn your body 180 degrees and take in the Olympic Range.

The Hurricane Hill Trail is reached by taking the Hurricane Ridge Road to the very end of the road, about 1/4 mile past the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center. The trail is relatively easy and takes no more than an hour to the top.

We've camped overnight in the vicinity and awakened to spectacular sunrises. Take along a camera, and some muffins for breakfast.

Getting there: From Port Angeles, follow road signs to Hurricane Ridge.

Note: This is backcountry wilderness travel. Any trail can become very dangerous in winter conditions. You are responsible for informing yourself of the hazards and taking the necessary precautions. Please read Terms of Use.
