"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."
My hiking buddy said the Green Mountain Lookout was rickety, but intact, and suggested we hike up there one sunny weekend in August.
When we reached the lookout, a restoration team was hard at work on the lookout, sprucing it up from foundation to roof.
That was in 1999. I recommend visiting this lookout to see a newly-restored cabin, and to take in the awesome views of the surrounding peaks, including Glacier and Baker.
The hike is mostly in woods, but the last couple of miles are in open meadows that face generally south. That makes for a sunny, hot climb to the summit, so take plenty of water.
