This is an excellent skier-only trail near Crystal Mountain northeast of Mt. Rainier. It's not as heavily traveled as Sun Top or Huckleberry Creek. If you're planning a weekend in this area (whether you're camping or staying at Alta), you can stay busy without wandering far from here. Sun Top and Huckleberry start at the Sun Top Sno-Park and are groomed for the first 5 miles. In addition to these, both of which are worthy of their popularity among skiers, don't miss Corral Pass road.
The views make this trip the little gem that it is. There are supposedly a lot of elk in this area in the winter, which has something to do with the pleasant exclusion of snowmobiles.
Ski road 7160 across the White River valley and follow it to its end at the ridgetop. I would avoid trail 1183, which reaches the same point in 2 miles by way of some steep slopes. If you're on snowshoes and the snowpack is stable, it might be a safe alternative.
Stats: 5 miles, elevation gain 2000', high point 4400'.
Getting there: Trail begins at the intersection of Hwy. 410 and road 7160, or wherever you can park along 7160.
