Northwest Hiking Trails

Eightmile Lake

Trip report by: Larry Herrick & Jerome Thielges

"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."

Hike started @2 3300ft and gains approx 1000ft in first 1/2-3/4 mile, then gains slowly to 4400 ft in 2.8 miles at Little Eight Mile Lake. The trail head to Lake Caroline is here. Another 1/2 mile & 200 ft elevation gain takes you to Eight Mile Lake. Excellent camping sites on north side of lake (permit required). We stayed one night- lots of flies but wind came up around 6:00 pm and kept them away. Second day we back tracked 1/2 mile & hiked approx 3 mile to 6400 ft, past Lake Caroline & Little Lake Caroline. Again lots of flies, but trail was clear and good. This was approx 2000 ft elevation gain, with the first 1 1/2 - 2 miles being the worst. Definitely a good, enjoyable hike.
