Northwest Hiking Trails

Capitol State Forest

Trip report by Jason R Thein

The Magaret McKinney campground is the location for this vast trail system located in Capitol State Forest. Enter the campground, drive to the parking area and look for trailhead 6 and 9. These trails offer an excellent view of the Waddell Creek with numerous swimming holes. Beware or maybe be on the lookout for nude sunbathers and skinny dippers. OH what a pleasure it was to see them!

This trail is a mutiple use trail with horses/bikers and hikers everyone is friendly and courtous. There are no problems that I have ever experienced.

There are however a lot of hikers (the smart ones) with their dogs so make sure that you bring a leash. I had a problem with a scottish terrier and my bull mastiff/german shepard mix, the owner of the terrier didn't have his on a leash.

Note: This is backcountry wilderness travel. Any trail can become very dangerous in winter conditions. You are responsible for informing yourself of the hazards and taking the necessary precautions. Please read Terms of Use.
