Burney Falls is about an hour's drive from Redding. The state park charges $5 for day use and it is well worth it. Burney Falls is the most unique falls I have ever seen. Not only is water pouring over the top but water also flows from the side of the cliff through the ground water system.
A paved trail descends to the bottom of the falls where the cool mist drops the temperature drastically. The trail continues to wind along the river. A must see.
Stats: variable miles, nominal elevation gain.
Getting there: The park is in eastern Shasta County.
