"I would definitely recommend this trip to a friend."
Arrived at trailhead at 11:00 am on Oct. 29, 2000. No other cars in sight, trail markers were covered with plastic wrap for protection already. Written material on this hike stress that it is a "relentless" uphill hike. It gives new meaning to the word "relentless". Many switchbacks, very few flat spots in the trail.
It was a beautiful day for hiking though. Ran into light snow cover at Virgin Lake, which was much prettier than the last time I was there a few years ago in early September.
Blanca lake is a beautiful "milky green" color from the minerals in the surrounding rocks. The last half mile down to the lake is a little steep, but the effort was worth the trouble.
Get an early start so you don't feel rushed and can rest on this hike. Especially if you are a weekend warrior. Couldn't wait to be going downhill instead of up, but at the end of the hike the knees were weak from the "relentless" downhill. Have fun!!
